What is Medicare?
Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people who are 65 years or older, younger people with certain disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease. When it comes to Medicare coverage, there are two main options available to beneficiaries: Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplements.
Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage plans, also known as Part C plans, are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. These plans provide all the benefits of Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) and often include additional benefits such as vision, hearing, and dental coverage. Medicare Advantage plans may have lower out-of-pocket costs than Original Medicare, but typically require the use of network providers.
Medicare Supplements
On the other hand, Medicare Supplements, also known as Medigap plans, are also offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. These plans are designed to fill in the gaps in Original Medicare coverage, such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. Medicare Supplements typically allow more flexibility in choosing healthcare providers, but often come with higher premiums.
